On August 05, 2021, NHS England published an update of the Specialized Services Policy Pipeline (covering April 27, 2021 - July 27, 2021).
Two types of Work Programmes exist:
- Clinical commissioning policy work program;
- Specialized commissioning service specification work program;
Updates were only made in the clinical commissioning policy work program. No new MedTech-related Clinical Commissioning Policies were added to the work program.
Two new MedTech-related policies were published:
- Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a bridge to lung transplant (all ages) is recommended to be available as a treatment option through routine commissioning within the criteria set out in the policy;
- Brachytherapy dose escalation with external beam radiotherapy for intermediate and high-risk localised prostate cancer is recommended as a routine commissioning treatment option within the criteria set out in the policy.
