On March 4, 2022, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland, ZIN) announced three projects which were awarded a total amount of more than €8.1 million under round 5 of the subsidy scheme for Promising care in 2022:
- Research of a new minimally invasive endoscopy-guided surgery in patients with spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage;
- Research into oral immunotherapy in children to cure a food allergy;
- Research of cutting the diaphragm band in chronic abdominal complaints.
The study for minimally invasive endoscopy-guided surgery in patients with spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage (DIST-ABC study) was awarded a subsidy of €5.1 million within the framework of the "Subsidy scheme for promising care". The project will start on June 1, 2022, in the Radboud University Medical Center, and will last for five years. After the completion of the project, the research results will be submitted to the ZIN around June 2027 for the decision about inclusion in the Basic Health Insurance.
The study for Oral immunotherapy in children to cure a food allergy (ORKA) was awarded a subsidy of €1.7 million within the framework of the "Subsidy scheme for promising care". The project will start on August 1, 2022, in the Deventer Hospital, and will last for 5.5 years. After the completion of the project, the research results will be submitted to the ZIN around February 2028 for the decision about inclusion in the Basic Health Insurance.
The study for endoscopic retroperitoneal coeliac artery release in patients with in median arcuate ligament syndrome (CARoSO study) was awarded a subsidy of €1.3 million within the framework of the "Subsidy scheme for promising care". The project will start on April 1, 2022, in the Medisch Spectrum Twente, and will last for five years and six months. After the completion of the project, the research results will be submitted to the ZIN around September 2027 for the decision about inclusion in the Basic Health Insurance.
Based on the scientific evidence, the ZIN will take a position within six months after the end of the research process to determine whether these services meet "the current state of science and practice", and, if the effectiveness is proved, the treatment will be reimbursed under basic health insurance.
