Acquisition of health equipment within the High-End Technology Equipment Investment Plan in Spain

On January 18, 2022, it was announced that the Ministry of Health, through the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA), has awarded the Framework Agreement for the acquisition of 81 linear accelerators included in the High-End Technology Equipment Investment Plan (INVEAT) promoted by the Government of Spain, as part of Component 18 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

This Framework Agreement has an investment of €212,761,357.81 (€175,835,832.90 without taxes) and will involve the acquisition of high-tech equipment for the treatment of oncological diseases, by a total of 15 Autonomous Communities, in addition to the Ministry of Defense.

The Framework Agreement includes three lots focused on the acquisition of high-performance linear accelerators, high-energy linear accelerators for adaptive radiation therapy, and linear accelerators for radiosurgery treatments and stereotactic body radiation therapy.

The companies that have been awarded are Ab Salud, S.L, ELEKTA MEDICAL SAU, and Varian Medical Systems Ibérica S.L.

The INGESA has also initiated the processing of the Framework Agreement that will facilitate the acquisition of the equipment in the fields of interventional cardiology, interventional vascular radiology, interventional neurovascular, computed tomography, digital brachytherapy, magnetic resonance imaging, PET-CT, SPECT-CT by the Autonomous Communities and other administrations.

In February 2021, the Clinical Coding and Schedule Development (CCSD) working group, which develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclature for private payers in England, published Bulletins 0182 and 0079 with changes to be implemented no later than April 10, 2022. Three new procedure codes concerned robotic surgery in orthopaedic area, spinal procedures, and ophthalmology, and five new diagnostic codes were introduced.
