In mid-June 2021, the Danish Health Data Agency (Sundhedsstyrelsen) has published the update of the Health Care Classification System (Sundheds-væsenets Klassifikations System, SKS). The most significant changes include: seven new diagnosis codes and 17 procedure codes were added. The newly added procedure codes concern mainly gastrointestinal and dermatological areas. The most significant changes are provided below. Four newly added codes in the gastrointestinal area include:

  • KJFH22 Proctocolectomy with ileoanal anastomosis without ileostomy;
  • KJFH23 Proctocolectomy with ileoanal anastomosis with ileostomy;
  • KJFH24 Laparoscopic proctocolectomy with ileoanal anastomosis without ileostomy;
  • KJFH25 Laparoscopic proctocolectomy with ileoanal anastomosis with ileostomy.

Also, four codes were introduced in the dermatology field:

  • KQAE10R Radical excision of pathological tissue of the skin and underlying structures of head or neck;
  • KQBE10R Radical excision of pathological tissue of the skin and underlying structures of truncus;
  • KQCE10R Radical excision of pathological tissue of the skin and underlying structures of upper extremity;
  • KQDE10R Radical excision of pathological tissue of the skin and underlying structures of lower extremity.

The Danish Health Authority updates the Health Care Classification System quarterly. It publishes the results on its website two weeks before the implementation, while the files with the changes are sent to the hospital systems.

The adjustments are subdivided into major and minor changes. Minor changes are mostly the text updates, which do not change the meaning of the term and do not require code closure. The changes are considered major if they are associated with implementing a new code or code closure.
