In Finland, the Health Care Services Selection Council (Terveydenhuollon palveluvalikoimaneuvosto, PALKO) is responsible for making recommendations regarding the research, treatment, and rehabilitation methods. The assessment procedure includes the overview of the research data, evidence, ethical, and organizational aspects of healthcare. The Council provides the recommendation whether the method is a part of publicly funded services or not.
Currently, PALKO is working on the following assessments related to medical procedures or technologies:
- Treatment of chronic low back pain with ossification surgery and subsequent rehabilitation;
- Screening for severe combined immune deficiency in a neonatal heel sample;
- Surgical treatment and subsequent rehabilitation of lumbar spine stenosis.

Initially, the recommendations are published at the website of the Council as drafts and could receive the feedback which would be considered during the preparation of the completed report. Once available, the final versions could be found here.
