Remote monitoring is the use of technological solutions that allow the patient to be monitored by the health care professionals at home. The patient makes agreed measurements in his own living room and answers simple questions about his or her health through a tablet. The results are transferred to a follow-up service, which contacts the patient with signs of deterioration or if the measurements are beyond normal values. Follow-up service provides medical support and guidance based on the patient's need for follow-up and, in conjunction with the patient, assesses whether there is a need for contact with a GP or emergency medical officer.
The Ministry of Health and Care Services has decided to allocate 18.5 million NOK for the project for the period of 2018-2021 with the municipalities Bodø, Eid, Kristiansand (in collaboration with Farsund, Arendal and Grimstad municipality), Kvam, Oslo (the towns of Sagene, St. Hanshaugen, Grünerløkka and Old Oslo) and Ullensaker municipality (in cooperation with Gjerdrum municipality). A total of 80 general practitioners in the six municipalities are committed to participate, and the goal is for 600 patients to participate in the trial.
