The Treatment Council is a new model for assessing treatment methods and health technologies, expected to become fully operational in early 2021. Earlier in February 2021, the final method and process framework of the Treatment Council was approved. In late February 2021, eleven out of fifteen needed members and three observers of the Treatment Council (Behandlingsråd) were appointed in Denmark.
The Treatment Council should consist of representatives from the five regions, two health economists, two patient representatives, representatives from the professional environments and agencies, and a representative from the industry.
The chairman of the Treatment Council is appointed by the Danish Regions. The remaining members are assigned by the Regions, medical societies (LVS), the Danish Nurses' Organization (DASYS), "Danish Patients" (an umbrella organization for patients and related associations), Disabled Peoples' Organizations Denmark, the Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen), the Danish Medicines Agency, industry and the Council itself.
The first meeting of the Treatment Council is planned to be conducted in May 2021, and one of the first tasks will be to assign the remaining four members.
