Clarifications about the coding of CAR-T cell therapy in Switzerland

Oct 2018

Valid from 18th of September 2018 (CHOP 2018) – CAR-T cell therapy:

T-cell sampling for CAR-T cell therapy (from the English "chimeric antigen receptor") is coded with the CHOP codes 41.0A.21 "Hematopoietic stem cell sampling from peripheral blood, autologous" and 00.91.11 "Autogenous transplantation, with external in vitro cultivation." CAR-T cell transfusion is encoded with CHOP codes 41.0B.21 "Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from peripheral blood, autologous" and 00.91.11 "Autogenous transplantation, with external in vitro cultivation."

SwissDRG notes that in the "conventional" hematopoietic stem cell sampling and transplantation, the codes of subcategory 00.91.- "Transplant from a related living donor" should not be coded together with the codes under 41.0 "Hematopoietic stem cell collection and transplantation." A corresponding exclusion "Omit the code" indicates it and remains valid for all other situations with the exception of CAR-T cell therapy.
