Belgian INAMI has published updates to the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices in April 2018

New material codes and related conditions of reimbursement have been implemented for the following devices:

Ventricular Assist Device

  • Devices will be reimbursed by individual price (tariff determined individually for each brand name) when registered in the Nominative lists 36801, 36802 and 36803
  • The following procedure codes have been implemented:
    • 180331 – 180342 “Univentricular assistance device of the paracorporal type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €25.694,20;
    • 180390 – 180401 “Renewal of univentricular assistance device of the paracorporal type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €25.694,20;
    • 180353 – 180364 “Biventricular assistance device of the paracorporal type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €46.129,73;
    • 180412 – 180423 “Renewal of biventricular assistance device of the paracorporal type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €46.129,73;
    • 180375 – 180386 “Ventricular assist equipment of the implantable type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €66.469,06;
    • 180434 – 180445 “Renewal of ventricular assist equipment of the implantable type used for first implantation in the case of bridge-to-transplant or bridge-to-decision” with the tariff of €66.469,06.
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement for these technologies, provided in paragraphs F-§25 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices.

Aortic Endoprotheses

  • Devices will be reimbursed with a generic tariff when registered in the Nominative list 32712
  • The following procedure codes have been implemented:
    • 180493 – 180504 “Extension of iliac bifurcation, in combination with an additional extension or a covered guardian placed at the level of the internal iliac artery, used as part of the delivery of the nomenclature 589595-589606” with the tariff of €4.050,15;
    • 180515 – 180526 “Extension of iliac bifurcation, in combination with an additional extension or covered guardian placed at the level of the internal iliac artery, used on the contralateral side as part of the 589595-589606 provision of the nomenclature” with the tariff of €3.037,62.
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement for these technologies, provided in paragraphs G-§04 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices.

In February 2021, the Clinical Coding and Schedule Development (CCSD) working group, which develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclature for private payers in England, published Bulletins 0182 and 0079 with changes to be implemented no later than April 10, 2022. Three new procedure codes concerned robotic surgery in orthopaedic area, spinal procedures, and ophthalmology, and five new diagnostic codes were introduced.

At the end of February 2022, the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) has launched a theme survey on products for monitoring and diagnostics of sepsis to identify products that may be relevant for health economic assessments at TLV. The suggestions for the products of interest, ongoing clinical studies, or innovation projects could be received until 23 March 2022.

On February 08, 2022, the Reimbursement Commission of the Social Security Institution released an updated version of the Healthcare Implementation Communique. The main changes relate to the increase in reimbursement fees of services and medical devices by approximately 35-75%.
