In November, the Basque Office for Health Technology Assessment (OSTEBA) released a report with results of evaluation of non-invasive telemonitoring on patients with heart failure. For this purpose, review of evidence efficacy and cost-effectiveness was performed within the assessment.
Results of review of clinical evidence in relation to use of home telemonitoring in patients with heart failure and following meta-analysis demonstrated that this technology can improve survival rate and decrease risk of hospitalizations caused by heart failure. However, it was stated that considered evidence have low or moderate quality. Therefore, more research on this topic was recommended to clarify eligible patient population, strategy and circumstances for its use in patients.
Review of cost-effectiveness studies demonstrated home telemonitoring as a most cost-effective intervention amongst the different interventions that were studied. In the same time, it was concluded that more complete economic evaluations for drawing long term conclusions should be performed.
