Jun 2017

The following technology assessments have been already released by NICE in first two weeks of June 2017:

  • Medtech Innovation Briefings for Neo Pedicle Screw System (a set of singleuse instruments and implantable screws and rods used for spinal fusion surgery in adults) and SecurAcath (device for securing cerebrospinal fluid drainage catheters, which uses a small metal 'anchor' that sits below the skin and holds the catheter in place)

MedTech Innovation Briefing is the NICE's advice program for innovative technologies. It provides an overview of clinical effectiveness, safety and cost. It does not offer a formal guidance and it therefore does not provide any recommendations.

The following clinical guidelines have been updated by NICE in first two weeks of June 2017:

  • Head injury: assessment and early management (CG176): this guideline covers the assessment and early management of head injury in children, young people and adults. In June 2017, NICE updated recommendations 1.2.8 “Initial assessment and care” and 1.4.12 “Patients having warfarin treatment” with cross-references to related NICE guidelines, and an outdated research recommendation was deleted
  • Spondyloarthritis in over 16s: diagnosis and management (NG65): this guideline covers diagnosing and managing spondyloarthritis that is suspected or confirmed in adults who are 16 years or older. NICE has amended recommendation 1.2.7 “Subsequent investigation using MRI” to clarify the advice on what imaging should be done
