Updated version of the disease management program “Coronary heart disease” was released by the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) in March of 2018

At the end of March of 2018, the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) has released an updated version of the disease management program (DMP) “Coronary heart disease”, which was initially implemented in 2003. According to §137f SGB V, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) has to conduct the selection of relevant chronic illnesses for DMPs, define the requirements for these programs and provide their regular update. Thus, in order to adapt DMP to the current state of medical knowledge, its updating process was initiated by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA). The IQWiG has provided a search for current evidence-based clinical practice guidelines on coronary heart disease (CHD), summarized the recommendations in key statements, and checked whether these resulted in a need for updating has commissioned. According to the obtained results, there was a need for updating in all health care aspects, except for “rehabilitation”. “Monitoring and follow-up” as well as “specific forms of angina pectoris” could be included as new aspects in the DMP.

In February 2022, two more health apps were introduced in the Directory of digital health applications (DiGAs) at the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and thus became reimbursable. These apps can be prescribed by physicians and psychotherapists and will be reimbursed by health insurers. In total, thirty health apps are now available at the DiGA Directory.

Use of a stent retriever to treat vasospasm of cerebral arteries after subarachnoid hemorrhage is being evaluated for early benefit assessment in Germany

On January 20, 2022, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) has initiated an evaluation procedure for early benefit assessment for the use of a stent retriever (pRELAX by femtos) to treat vasospasm of cerebral arteries after subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Health app "Cara Care for irritable bowel syndrome" obtained reimbursement in Germany

On December 26, 2021, the new health app was introduced in the Directory of digital health applications (DiGAs) at the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and thus became reimbursable. These apps can be prescribed by physicians and psychotherapists and will be reimbursed by health insurers. In total, 28 health apps are now available at the DiGA Directory.
