On February 5, 2019, the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) has decided that positron emission tomography (TEP) can be used in case of suspected occurrence of an infection or fever of unknown origin to ascertain the cause or location of the inflammation, if the usual diagnostic means and image acquisition procedures (radiographs, CT, MRI) did not provide satisfactory results. This indication will be reimbursed by the mandatory health care insurance (AOMS) starting from March 1, 2019. Furthermore, the percutaneous electrical stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve (PTNS) will also become a mandatory service, when used for incontinence.

Furthermore, changes have been implemented in the List of Medical Aids (EMAp). The chapter on medical compression stockings has been restructured as part of the regular EMAp review process. The chapters on incontinence and ostomy materials have also been completely revised. As a conclusion, the maximum repayable amounts (IMR) relating to incontinence and ostomy materials will be reduced. Other, minor changes have also been implemented in the EMAp.

Regarding the bowel cancer screening, which is covered in Switzerland since 2013, some prevention services, which are part of the screening programme, have been removed. Thus, in six cantons, bowel cancer screening programs that do not cover examinations for the early recognition of bowel cancer carried out by faecal analysis or colonoscopy have been initiated.
Other, minor changes have also been implemented in the List of Analyses. These changes came into force March 1, 2019 and can be seen here.
